| What Should I Be Eating? Basically, the things we should be eating are very simple. It’s when we start surviving off complex processed, chemical foods that we have major problems. 1) Whole Foods Whole Foods are essentially foods that occur in their whole form. They are unprocessed, just the way nature made them. This is important because they have all the ingredients contained in them to nourish good health. Isolating nutrients or removing certain nutrients from foods alters them, thereby changing the way they function in the body. 2) Rainbow of Colors Play a game with your children to try and get all the colors of the rainbow in their meals every day. If you’re eating lots of colorful food, you’re probably eating what you need to be eating unless, of course, the rainbow of colors is coming from Trix or M&M’s. In the most basic of explanations, various nutrients in fruits and veggies give them their coloring. It stands to reason, the more colors you’re getting, the more variety of nutrients you’re getting too. That’s always a good thing. 3) Organic I cannot stress enough the importance of organic food. Many people are catching onto this, while others still find reasons to buy conventional. There are many excuses to buying nonorganic from ignorance to price, but the pesticides and chemicals found on conventional produce will affect your health! Your children deserve the best. Their little bodies are already bombarded by environmental toxins every day. Buying organic is a huge step in the right direction. Organic food not only doesn’t have the toxins, they are also grown in a conscious manner, where things such as soil quality are paid proper attention. This results in more nutrient rich food. Depending on where you live, it may not always be practical to buy organic 100% of the time. This is the ideal, but not always reality. The point is to do the best you can. The more organic you eat, the less toxins you put in your body. In the long run, it really adds up! |
