| How to Begin Considering Homeschooling More Seriously Now that you know some of the many benefits of homeschooling, you may be considering homeschooling more closely. If you are, there is plenty to learn. Homeschooling is fairly straight forward and can be very simple and flexible. I hope to help serve as a bit of a guide, however, for those interested in more information. Where to Start The first place to start if you think homeschooling may suit your family is to begin researching. Learn everything you possibly can. While I tried to cover as much as I could think of in these sections, there is still plenty that I have left out. Read books and visit other websites. Visit our homeschooling resources section. The wealth of information that you will gain once you have looked into homeschooling can be phenomenal. A very important process in the beginning of this research is discovering your state’s homeschooling laws. Some states are very relaxed, and others have quite a few regulations. To have the most rewarding experience possible, you will want to comply with the state requirements. Some states require you to document what your child has been learning. Some require a certain amount of hours each year to be devoted to the pursuit of education. Other states require standardized testing every year. There are two states, Rhode Island and Massachusetts, that require “approval” before being “allowed” to homeschool. |
